Product Overview

54672522 is the genuine Ingersoll Rand air filter element for the Next Generation R-Series (NG R-Series) 30–37 kW screw air compressor platform. It is mounted inside the external air cleaner assembly, upstream of the airend inlet, and acts as the first filtration barrier for the compressed air system.

One part number covers the entire 30–37 kW platform: R30I, R30N, R37I and R37N all use 54672522. Fixed-speed (N) and variable-speed (I) configurations share the same element, so no differentiation by power rating or drive type is required at the point of purchase.

Technical Parameters

Filtration Performance

ParameterValue / Notes
Filtration rating≤10 μm
Filtration efficiency≥99% for particles ≥5 μm
Test standardISO 5011; characterised by efficiency, inlet restriction and dust holding capacity
Dust holding capacityApprox. 900 g

Flow and Restriction

ParameterValue / Notes
Air flowMatched to NG R-Series 30–37 kW platform output; one element per compressor
Face velocityApprox. 0.036 m/s
Initial pressure dropInlet vacuum should remain below 0.05 bar (5 kPa) with a new element
Alarm / final restrictionPer compressor inlet vacuum gauge and controller alarm setpoint
Restriction vs. energyEvery 1 kPa increase in inlet restriction raises compressor energy consumption by approx. 1%

As inlet restriction rises, inlet pressure and air density fall. The compressor must work harder to maintain discharge pressure and flow, so specific power increases. Based on a 0.7 MPa discharge pressure and 101.3 kPa atmospheric pressure, the theoretical compression-ratio effect is:

Inlet restrictionCompression ratioRelative energy increase
0 kPa (new element)7.91Baseline
2 kPa8.07+2.0%
4 kPa8.24+4.1%
6 kPa8.41+6.3%

For R-Series compressors running 6,000+ hours per year, the additional energy cost of a restricted element quickly exceeds the price of the element itself — the engineering basis for the factory pressure-drop alarm.

Construction and Dimensions

ParameterValue / Notes

Installation and Maintenance Procedure

One person, approximately 20 minutes.

  1. Shut down, depressurise, lock out/tag out. Isolate the main power supply and apply lockout/tagout. Wait until the controller shows 0 bar system pressure. Check: gauge at zero, no residual air flow noise.
  2. Open the air cleaner housing. The air cleaner is externally mounted on the R-Series enclosure. Release the end-cap clips or bolts. Check: clips free of seizure, end cap undistorted.
  3. Remove the old element and inspect it. Lift the element out vertically and examine dust distribution. Check: uniform grey-brown dust loading is normal; oily residue indicates oil carry-over upstream and requires investigation.
  4. Clean the housing interior. Wipe the inner walls and base with a dry, lint-free cloth. Do not blow compressed air into the housing — this drives dust into the inlet tract. Check: no loose dust; in humid locations also check for condensate at the base.
  5. Inspect the breather filter. The breather filter (part number 39123111) shares the 2,000-hour interval. Inspect now and replace if clogged or heavily loaded. Check: media intact, no heavy dust build-up.
  6. Fit the new element and confirm the seal. Align 54672522 with the housing outlet and push it fully home. Confirm the radial seal ring is evenly compressed, with no trapped material and no skew. Check: element face flush with housing, uniform seal compression marks.
  7. Reassemble, reset the timer and verify. Refit the end cap and tighten the clips. Reset the air filter service timer on the controller. Start the compressor and run at idle for 5 minutes. Check: inlet vacuum stable below 0.05 bar (5 kPa), confirming a good seal. If vacuum is high, re-check seal seating.

Non-negotiable: do not start the compressor until the element is fully seated and the seal is compressed. With a radial seal, an element that is not pushed fully home allows air to bypass directly between seal and housing — equivalent to running with no element at all.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which models use 54672522?
All four models on the NG R-Series 30–37 kW platform: R30I, R30N, R37I and R37N. Fixed-speed (N) and variable-speed (I) configurations share the same element. R30, R37, R30IE and R37IE also use this part number.

Is the air filter the same for R30 and R37?
Yes. 54672522 fits both R30 (30 kW) and R37 (37 kW). The difference between the two is motor power and delivered air flow; the air cleaner housing and element on the 30–37 kW platform are identical.

Will it fit an R45 or R55?
No. R45–R75 use 54672530 and R90–R110 use 23429822. Housing dimensions differ across power platforms, so cross-platform fitting is neither possible nor sealable.

How often should it be replaced?
2,000 hours or 3 months under standard conditions, whichever comes first. In high-dust environments such as cement, quarrying or mining, shorten to approximately 1,500 hours. Where site dust is persistently high, a high-dust pre-filter kit (24737298 / 24737306) lets you replace only the pre-filter layer and extend main element life.

What else should be replaced at the same time?
Parts sharing the 2,000-hour interval are the oil filter 54672654, oil separator 54749247 and breather filter 39123111. Replacing them together avoids staggered service intervals and repeated downtime.

Is there a service kit covering these parts?
Yes. 2,000-hour kit 24730897 (fixed and variable speed), 4,000-hour fixed-speed kit 24730939 and 4,000-hour variable-speed kit 24766123.

Which lubricant should be used?
Ingersoll Rand Ultra Coolant, part number 38459582, suitable for all R-Series screw compressors. Available in 5 L, 20 L and 55-gallon formats.

Can a dirty element be blown clean and reused?
Not recommended. This is a radial-seal pleated paper element designed for single use. Reverse blowing with compressed air removes only surface dust; deep fine particles remain, and the pressure can fracture media fibres or distort pleat spacing, creating invisible bypass paths. A cleaned element typically looks serviceable while no longer performing.

How do I know when to change it?
Four signals: inlet vacuum gauge reading rises; controller reports service due; the element face is completely covered in dust with no visible pleats; delivered air flow falls while energy consumption rises. Any one signal warrants replacement.

Is this a genuine part and how is it verified?
54672522 is an Ingersoll Rand OEM part number. Genuine parts carry Ingersoll Rand authentication marking and warranty. Order by part number — it is the only unambiguous identifier. Do not order on the basis of "fits R30/R37" or visual similarity alone.

Air filter, oil filter and oil separator share the 2,000-hour interval and are best replaced together to keep service cycles aligned. For dusty sites, fit the high-dust pre-filter kit first — the pre-filter costs far less than the main element and is faster to change.
